New England, Cruising History's Heartland…      Where to start; Essex, Connecticut; Newport, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; Portland or Bar Harbor, Maine?      It really doesn't matter, you've all ready set foot on soil walked over more than two hundred year's ago by visiting British troops on their way south. So put your history books away and live a part of what the New England coast has to offer.      Beautiful harbors, white spires, seagulls overhead, and lobstermen headed home at sundown. In summers fog or fall's sparkling days, this coast that stretches for over a 1000 miles of bays, coves, sounds, and "ponds" awaits in its own beauty to be enjoyed by the visiting yachtsman.      New England is full of wonderful spots with names I defy you to find on any chart. Ask your Captain to take you there…Aquidneck Island or Padanarum!      Cruising the coastal areas of New England; Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Mystic Seaport, Camden Harbor, Soames Sound, Frenchman's Bay, Rogue Island, Great Salt Pond, Cape Ann or Cape Cod are just a few areas to explore. Your Captain and crew will know spots where the pine trees grow out of the rocks at water's edge and the mountains rise out of the ocean. Likewise they'll know where the rich and famous spent their summer days whiling away the summer heat in the cool ocean breezes of coastal New England.      No cruise up the Chesapeake would be complete without a stop to visit the battle grounds, ramparts, and earthworks just as they were when Cornwallis surrendered to Washington and the American Revolution ended at Yorktown. Tangiers and Smith Islands harken back to the early days of life on the Chesapeake when you could still hear the words of 'Olde English' spoken by the friendly people who made their living crabbing and oystering. Sailing up the Potomac you pass Mount Vernon on your way to Washington. There seem to be more sailboats in every creek and cove with the Severn River, the Navel Academy, and Spa Creek making Annapolis a sailors dream.      Keep your eyes open for one of mother natures wonders along the way…a mighty broaching whale…or a somber pod lazing along on long ocean swells, it'll make your day!
